Football Recap: John Carroll Starts Season with Victory Against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes

John Carroll took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints 27-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Patriots' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 46th in Maryland, while the Saints are ranked 178th in Virginia).

Carson Shoffner had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 156 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

Shoffner was just one part of a punishing run game: John Carroll was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 267 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Stephen's & St. Agnes only rushed for 16 rushing yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John Carroll will take on Landon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bishop O'Connell at 2:00 p.m. on the 13th.
