Preview: Timpson Bears vs. Garrison Bulldogs
Timpson is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Garrison is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Timpson Bears will take on the Garrison Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Timpson never let their opponents score. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 61-0 win over Shelbyville. Given Timpson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Shelbyville is ranked 573rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jj Garner, who rushed for 269 yards and five touchdowns on only eight carries. Garner really tore up the turf during one magnificent 95-yard run. Another player making a difference was Chris Nickleberry, who rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Garrison was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past San Augustine 58-10 at home. 58 seems to be a good number for Garrison as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Garrison got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Omarion Rasberry out in front who rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Rasberry is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Javien Black, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 9-0 season records intact.
Timpson didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Garrison in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 44-38 victory. Will Timpson repeat their success, or does Garrison have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
