Baseball Game Preview: North Pike Jaguars vs. West Marion Trojans

The North Pike Jaguars are taking a road trip to square off against the West Marion Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Marion took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on North Pike, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, North Pike turned things around against West Lincoln on Monday. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 11-8.

Peyton McGehee was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. JK Bales also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, West Marion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of St. Andrew's Episcopal. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since May 22, 2024.

West Marion saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kolby Stringer, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

North Pike's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for West Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

North Pike's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. North Pike has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for West Marion, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will North Pike continue to outrun the ball?

North Pike was able to grind out a solid win over West Marion when the teams last played back in February, winning 12-7. Does North Pike have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Marion turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
