Heritage is 1-9 against Wakefield since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Heritage will square off against Wakefield at 4:00 p.m. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Heritage fell victim to Wake Forest and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 8-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Huskies were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Wakefield was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Millbrook. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Kensley Harrison was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brianna Riehle, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Holly Work was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Wakefield's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Heritage hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Wakefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Heritage suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Wakefield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Heritage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
