Softball Recap: Chadwick Dolphins vs. Rio Hondo Prep Kares
Chadwick had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it six. They lost 8-1 to the Rio Hondo Prep Kares. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Kares this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 back in April.

Sammy Santa Ana put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

Like Chadwick, Rio Hondo Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: RYEN COVEY. On the mound, COVEY pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, ALLIE SCOTT kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. At bat, COVEY got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while SCOTT got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave SCOTT a new career-high.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was TARA RILEY, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
