Softball Game Preview: Logan Wildcats vs. Independence Patriots

The Logan Wildcats will square off against the Independence Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Logan's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Independence's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Independence will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Logan extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Wildcats came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against Riverside. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 28th.

Myleigh Adkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Starr, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lacy Curry, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Independence faced Hoover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Patriots took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. The defeat continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost six in a row.

Independence saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paytin Brehm, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double was Brehm's first of the season.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Logan, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
