Capital hasn't had much luck against River Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cougars will take on the Hawks at 3:30 p.m. Capital has given up an average of 16.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Capital fell victim to Timberline and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 21-0 to the Blazers. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, River Ridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lakes on Monday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 19-4 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.
Jaylah Sok Vandergriff was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, River Ridge let Raylie Birklid and Kaylani Karageorge run wild. Birklid went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Karageorge got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Karageorge has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Clarke, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
River Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
River Ridge pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Capital, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11-1.
Capital might still be hurting after the 18-4 loss they got from River Ridge in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
