Preview: Putnam Clippers vs. Stonington Bears
The Putnam Clippers will head out on the road to face off against the Stonington Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Putnam ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They secured a 67-61 W over Killingly. Putnam's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Noah Rudman was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Devlin, who scored 22 points.
Meanwhile, Stonington was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 73-67 to Fitch. While losing is never fun, Stonington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Fitch is ranked ninth).
The victory got Putnam back to even at 5-5. As for Stonington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Putnam was dealt a bruising 85-35 defeat at the hands of Stonington when the teams last played back in February of 2022. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Putnam was down 52-15.
