Basketball Recap: Lakeland Takes a Loss

Lakeland and Holy Cross squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Lakeland had to settle for second. They were dealt an 86-47 loss at the hands of the Holy Cross Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Chiefs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 478th, while the Crusaders are ranked 31st).

Despite the loss, Lakeland still got an impressive performance from David Naniewicz, who went 5-for-8 en route to 16 points. That's the most points Naniewicz has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Kopa, who scored nine points.

Lakeland has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. The victory (which was Holy Cross' eighth in a row) raised their record to 21-3.

Lakeland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Holy Cross, they have already played their next matchup, an 80-49 win against Elk Lake on the 22nd.
