Softball Game Preview: Kearns Cougars vs. West Jordan Jaguars

The Kearns Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the West Jordan Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kearns was handed a 17-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Hillcrest 5-4. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, West Jordan came tearing into Monday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Wolverines 15-5. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Lexy Taylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Taylor was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, West Jordan got a massive performance out of Andrea Tagovailoa, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Tagovailoa has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Arianna Fjeldsted, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

West Jordan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West Jordan's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kearns, their record now sits at 5-12.

Kearns might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from West Jordan when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
