Football Recap: St. Joseph Drops Season-High Score on Watersprings

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Joseph). They came out on top against Watersprings by a score of 68-58 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Jayhawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

St. Joseph didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as John Rodriguez, Hunter Roberts, Madden Bentley, and David Russo picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Watersprings' side was Marshell Beatty, who picked up five sacks and made 12 total tackles (8.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why Watersprings lost, don't look at Ryan Demkowicz. Despite the final result, he picked up 164 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 74 yards and one score on only five carries. Demkowicz's longest reception was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Another player making a difference was Sean Perry, who threw for 222 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes.

St. Joseph now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Watersprings, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Joseph will challenge Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Watersprings, they will square off against Rockland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give Watersprings their first taste of in-conference action this season.
