Baseball Recap: Newport Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Newport had won six straight on the road, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 17-4 to make it seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cascade Cougars a 1-0 shutout. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Cubs have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

As for Cascade, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

For Cascade's part, Slade Hudson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. Hudson has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hans Kamm made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Newport will have a chance to go back-to-back against Cascade: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
