Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Hills Pirates vs. Gilroy Mustangs

The Piedmont Hills Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Gilroy Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Piedmont Hills is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Piedmont Hills came into this matchup off a tough nine-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Live Oak by a score of 5-3 on Thursday.

Piedmont Hills saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Gilbert, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Gilroy earned a 14-9 victory over Oak Grove on Thursday.

The team relied heavily on Brennan Neander, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. He has become a key player for Gilroy: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Evan Passama was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Gilroy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Piedmont Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Gilroy, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6.

Piedmont Hills took their victory against Gilroy when the teams last played on March 11th by a conclusive 17-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Piedmont Hills since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
