Preview: Timpson Bears vs. Shelbyville Dragons

Timpson is 3-0 against Shelbyville since October of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Timpson Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Shelbyville Dragons at 7:00 p.m. Timpson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Shelbyville likes a good challenge.

Timpson can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They breezed by Joaquin at home to the tune of 69-0. Given Timpson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Joaquin is ranked 837th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Terry Bussey had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes. Bussey really tore up the turf during one magnificent 99-yard run. Timpson also got a significant boost from Chris Nickleberry, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

Meanwhile, even though San Augustine scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Shelbyville still came out on top. Shelbyville managed a 40-34 win over San Augustine. The win made it back-to-back wins for Shelbyville.

Franny Buckley was on fire: he rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Parker, who picked up 167 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Timpson's victory was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Shelbyville, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Timpson against Shelbyville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 67-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Timpson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
