Baseball Recap: Loyola College Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Cedar Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Loyola College Prep). Everything went their way against the Cedar Creek Cougars on Sunday as the Loyola College Prep Flyers made off with a 15-5 win. While the Flyers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hayden Horton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That run was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Johnny Roberts looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

Back at the plate, Brock Geter and Kingston Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Geter scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Adams went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave Geter a new career-high. Caden Pryor was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Loyola College Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Loyola College Prep's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-6-1. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 3.5 runs. As for Cedar Creek, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Loyola College Prep will square off against Calvary Baptist Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvary Baptist Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Loyola College Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cedar Creek, they will face off against St. Frederick at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
