Things were looking good for Snow Canyon after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 39-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of Manti.
The losing side was boosted by Joseph Smith, who threw for 158 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 78 yards.
Snow Canyon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Calen Kelly, Karsten Stuart, and Trey Vaughn picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Cathedral took care of business in their home opener on Friday (barely). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-13 victory over Loyola. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Phantoms have posted since August 18, 2023.
Cathedral found their leader in underclassman Jaden Jefferson, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 197 yards and a touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes. Jefferson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Quentin Hale was Jefferson's top target, picking up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
