Baseball Game Preview: Argo Argonauts vs. Hancock Eagles

The Argo Argonauts will take on the Hancock Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Argo will be strutting in after a win while Hancock will be coming in after a loss.

Argo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Clemente 13-5 on Monday. The Argonauts not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024.

Valente Melero was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Melero was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Argo let Cristo Fernandez and Daniel Padilla run wild. Fernandez scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Padilla scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. What's more, Fernandez posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dennis Gaytan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Argo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Hancock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 13-0 to Whitney Young.

Argo's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Hancock, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Argo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hancock struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
