Baseball Recap: Pioneer Falls Short of Ray in the Playoffs

Pioneer and Ray squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Pioneer had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Texans by a score of 9-7. The Diamondbacks' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Pioneer got a good showing from Francisco Juarez, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Juarez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexis Lopez and Diego Dominguez did some serious damage despite the final result: Lopez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Dominguez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Martin Moreno was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Pioneer's defeat dropped their record down to 18-12. As for Ray, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-11 record this season.

While Pioneer had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
