Basketball Recap: Kayleigh James' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gilman over Cadott

Gilman lost against Cadott back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Gilman Pirates took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cadott Hornets. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gilman lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kayleigh James, who posted 14 points and five steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Olynick, who had 16 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Gilman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. This was only their fourth loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

It was another big night for Taylor Hager, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 19 points along with six assists and six rebounds for Cadott. Hager also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Cadott is 7-2 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Nerdrum, who put up eight points in addition to ten boards and three steals.

Gilman's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Cadott, their record now sits at 10-14.

Gilman has already played their next game, a 63-19 victory against Lake Holcombe on the 25th. As for Cadott, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-21 win against Abbotsford on the 25th.
