Basketball Recap: Rogan Annis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mile High Academy over Rocky Mountain Lutheran

If Mile High Academy was riding high fresh off their 90-32 takedown of Victory Prep Academy last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mile High Academy Mustangs took a 57-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Mile High Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rogan Annis, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Annis is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Montoya, who posted ten points in addition to four steals and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Mile High Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 15.

Rocky Mountain Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Borchardt led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Abraham Rivas, who scored 14 points and six steals.

Mile High Academy's loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-11.
