Baseball Recap: Montville Takes a Loss

Montville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 7-1 to the Chatham Cougars. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Montville got a good showing from Jacob Hammer, who struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Hammer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Montville's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Chatham, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montville will welcome Delbarton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chatham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Morris Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
