Basketball Recap: Simla Skates Past Elbert with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Simla over Elbert in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Simla Cubs blew the Elbert Bulldogs out of the water with a 76-18 final score. The Cubs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 30 points or more this season.

Simla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carlee Cox led the charge by putting up 11 points and six steals. Cox has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kylie Maranville, who posted eight points along with 11 rebounds and six assists.

Elbert's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jadyn Schmidt, who had six points and five boards. What's more, Schmidt also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024. Maddie Vaughn also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

The victory (which was Simla's third in a row) raised their record to 14-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for Elbert, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Simla will look to defend their home court on Friday against Burlington at 5:30 p.m. Simla has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Elbert, they have already played their next contest, a 43-17 win against Rocky Mountain Lutheran on the 20th.
