The Valley Christian Defenders will challenge the Yorba Linda Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Valley Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Arlington. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Defenders.
Rachel Zhang spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aubrielle Ramirez and Choyce Chambers did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Chambers went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Ramirez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Britton Brown, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Yorba Linda won against Brea Olinda on Thursday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Mustangs skirted past Valencia 5-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three contests in a row.
Samantha Cook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Cook was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madeline Jeanblanc was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Saige Block was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.
Yorba Linda pushed their record up to 15-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Valley Christian, their win bumped their record up to 18-6-1.
