Softball Recap: Catholic Central Crusaders vs. Brooke Bruins
Catholic Central had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it five. They lost 19-1 to the Brooke Bruins. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Crusaders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Catholic Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miriam Free, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Free has hit this season.
As for Brooke, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-18 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Brooke's side, they got a great performance from Karson Drumm as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Drumm has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Hayman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emma Michel was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Looking ahead, Catholic Central will welcome Jefferson County Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Brooke, they are taking a road trip to challenge Union Local at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
