Basketball Recap: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Karnes City Badgers
Nixon-Smiley was the 47-43 winner over Karnes City when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs had to suffer through a 68-39 loss at the hands of the Karnes City Badgers. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
It was another big night for Savion Nixon-Thompson, who shot 6-for-10 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds for Karnes City. That makes it three consecutive games in which Nixon-Thompson has scored at least a third of Karnes City's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rodrick Vasquez, who posted 11 points and three steals.
Nixon-Smiley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Karnes City, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 14-11.
Nixon-Smiley will be playing at home against Poth at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Karnes City, they will venture away from home to challenge Stockdale at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
