The result was an unpleasant reminder to the WILDCATS of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.
Sotomayor wouldn't go down easily and took Brennan into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking 11-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-15, 17-25, 25-16, 15-4.
Sotomayor's offense was headlined by MacKenzy Walker and Adyson England, who picked up eight kills apiece. They got some help from Zoey Aguayo and her 17 assists. Finally, England was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high eight blocks.
Sotomayor's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Brennan, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Looking ahead, Sotomayor will square off against McAllen Memorial at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. After both having extra time off, Brennan and Harlan will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
