Baseball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Holgate Tigers

The Patrick Henry Patriots will venture away from home to square off against the Holgate Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Holgate took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Patrick Henry, who comes in off a win.

Patrick Henry can't be too worried about heading out to take on Holgate: they just beat Elmwood at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Patriots never let the Royals get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.

Cal Schroeder made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Hicksville hit Holgate with a five-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aces.

Like Patrick Henry, Holgate also got a great game from a two-way player: Grady Hoffer. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Hoffer was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Hoffer wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zack Boecker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Patrick Henry pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Holgate, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Patrick Henry came up short against Holgate in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 6-2. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
