Softball Recap: Chester Yellowjackets vs. Marissa/Coulterville Meteors

Chester posted their closest victory since March 28th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Marissa/Coulterville Meteors 10-9. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Meteors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Lexie Mott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off 11 hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Camryn Wolff was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Maggie Caby, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two doubles.

Chester hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marissa/Coulterville struck out 11 times.

The victory got Chester back to even at 13-13. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Chester will challenge Trico at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they will square off against New Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
