Escambia had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They skirted past the Fort Walton Beach Vikings 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Gators have posted against the Vikings since April 25, 2022.

Christian Stone and Colin Hanks made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Stone pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hanks pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At the plate, Stone scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Hanks scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clayton Sanders, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. Marcus Days was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Escambia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Walton Beach only posted a batting average of .281.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escambia will take on West Florida at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Walton Beach, they will square off against Pine Forest at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
