Baseball Recap: Salem Gets the Win

Salem hadn't done well against Mt. Vernon recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rams, sneaking past 3-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Noah Nix spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Salem saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aden Bass, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Bass has posted since back in April of 2024.

Salem now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-17.

Coming up, Salem will take on Richland County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.52 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mt. Vernon, they will square off against Freeburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
