Softball Recap: Lakeside Wins Going Away Against Rancho Christian

Lakeside won the last time they faced Rancho Christian and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lancers blew past the Eagles 18-2. That looming 18-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Lancers yet this season.

Michaela Alverado made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Lakeside got a massive performance out of Gabriella Marquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Marquez has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Adryanna Alvarez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Lakeside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Lakeside has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Rancho Christian, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Lakeside will face off against Moreno Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
