Basketball Preview: Sherwood Bowmen vs. Churchill Lancers

Having just played yesterday, the Sherwood Bowmen will jump right back in to play the Churchill Lancers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sherwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Churchill likes a good challenge.

Sherwood saw some tournament action on Friday. Everything went their way against South Salem as Sherwood made off with a 79-59 victory. The Bowmen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Churchill). They skirted past Woodburn 63-61.

Sherwood better focus on containing Jace Litten and Ty Read as the pair were huge in Churchill's win. Litten posted 16 points and five boards, while Read dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards. Read is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Gutierrez, who earned seven points.

Churchill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Sherwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Churchill, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Sherwood came up short against Churchill in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 69-62. Can Sherwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
