Volleyball Recap: Payson Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Payson hadn't done well against Springville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Lions put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

While Payson won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-2, 25-23.

Sadie DeGraffenried paced Payson's offense, picking up ten kills. DeGraffenried got some help from Brooklyn Shirley and her 21 assists. Shirley was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

The victory got Payson back to even at 9-9. As for Springville, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Payson is set to take on their familiar foe Salem Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Springville will challenge rival Maple Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
