Baseball Recap: Washington Academy Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

It's playoff time, and Washington Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They didn't even let the Mount View Mustangs on the board on Saturday, marking the Raiders' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

James Welch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Trevor Shimabukuro was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Daniel Gardner was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Washington Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Washington Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mount View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-8.

Looking ahead, Washington Academy will challenge Dexter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 2.3, the Tigers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Mount View does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
