Softball Preview: Salem Generals vs. Granville Golden Horde
Salem is 8-2 against Granville since April of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Salem Generals will head out on the road to face off against the Granville Golden Horde at 4:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Meanwhile, Granville put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Whitehall 5-4. Despite the win, that was the fewest runs Granville has scored all year.
Lauren Bascom made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Bascom has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Bascom was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Bascom wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Megan Decker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Salem's record now sits at 2-0. As for Granville, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Salem beat Granville 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salem since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
