Softball Preview: New Castle Trojans vs. Pendleton Heights Arabians

New Castle is 2-8 against Pendleton Heights since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The New Castle Trojans will be playing at home against the Pendleton Heights Arabians at 5:30 p.m. New Castle will be strutting in after a victory while Pendleton Heights will be coming in after a loss.

Last Friday, New Castle made easy work of Cowan and carried off a 13-3 win.

McKenna Speer was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Speer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Kattie Mathews was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. Artaysha Thompson was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Pendleton Heights had to settle for a 4-3 defeat against Eastern Hancock on Monday. Pendleton Heights has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Katelin Goodwin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Even though they lost, Pendleton Heights was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with three doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Hancock didn't hit any.

New Castle's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Pendleton Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.

New Castle might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Pendleton Heights in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Thankfully for New Castle, Eliza Findlay (who tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
