Baseball Recap: Lanier Comes Up Short

Lanier extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-17. They came up short against the Edison Golden Bears, falling 12-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 back in March.

Lanier saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Perez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Alexander Farias also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Edison, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11-2 record this season. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly 11 runs.

On Edison's side, Ezrah Acosta-Torres made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Edison is 2-1 when Acosta-Torres allows one or fewer hits, but 8-10-2 otherwise. Acosta-Torres was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Julius Ramirez and Ezequiel Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Sanchez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Ramirez has become a key player for Edison: the team is 7-1-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-10-1 otherwise. Sergio Villarreal was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lanier is set to square off against their familiar foe Burbank at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Edison will take on rival Jefferson at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
