Basketball Recap: Belton-Honea Path's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Belton-Honea Path's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They snuck past the Charlotte Christian Knights with a 71-67 victory. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 142nd in South Carolina, while the Knights are ranked 344th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Charlotte Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Marshall Nicholson, who went 7 for 17 on his way to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Those 20 points gave Nicholson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Schonberg, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Belton-Honea Path's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Charlotte Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Belton-Honea Path wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 92-57 loss against Loris on the 28th. As for Charlotte Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-53 defeat against Christian Academy on the 28th.
