Softball Recap: Northern York Extends Road Winning Streak to Nine

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Northern York ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Waynesboro Indians. Considering the Polar Bears have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sammy Magee was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over nine innings while giving up seven earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-6.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Hobby, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jalyn Welch, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Northern York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.

Northern York's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Waynesboro, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Coming up, Northern York will face off against Big Spring at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Polar Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Waynesboro, they will head out to take on Greencastle-Antrim at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
