Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Mt. Vernon never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Cahokia Comanches. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-0 on Thursday.

Alex Kiefer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mt. Vernon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-12 when he doesn't). Hayden McKee was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Mt. Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mt. Vernon's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13. As for Cahokia, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will welcome Mattoon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams are facing the Greenwave at the right time seeing as the Greenwave are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cahokia, they will venture away from home to face off against Althoff Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Comanches' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
