Football Recap: Kearney Starts Season with Victory Against North Platte

Kearney had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They claimed a resounding 38-0 victory over the North Platte Bulldogs. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Bearcats had established a 28-point advantage.

Kearney had a senior duo take command as Zach Atchison rushed for 69 yards and two scores on only nine carries and Levi Pofahl rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 51 yards.

Kearney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Looking ahead, Kearney will welcome Grand Island at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Platte, they will venture away from home to challenge Lincoln East at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
