Basketball Recap: Middleburg Comes Up Short

Middleburg lost against Baker County back in November and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Middleburg Broncos received a blow as they fell 52-36 to the Baker County Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 440th, while the Wildcats are ranked 161st).

Despite the loss, Middleburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aiyana Haynes went 7 for 12 on her way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana White, who posted six points.

Baker County was led to victory by Natalia Strachan and Yamise Haygood. Strachan almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals, while Haygood almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Strachan a new career-high in steals. Makai'Lah Williams was another key player, putting up seven points along with five boards and four steals.

Middleburg's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Baker County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Middleburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 72-39 victory against Keystone Heights on the 13th. As for Baker County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-22 win against Branford on the 13th.
