Football Recap: Bovina Starts off Right with Win over Highland Park

Bovina gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Highland Park Hornets 46-18. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 21-16 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matthew Espinoza had a dynamite game, throwing for 216 yards and four TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 35 yards and one score. Those 216 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Bovina's leading receiver Elijah Rocha was Espinoza's top target yet again, picking up 82 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Highland Park's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Bovina will venture away from home to challenge Dimmitt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Highland Park, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Clarendon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
