Basketball Recap: Zoey Neff's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Purnell Swett over Cape Fear

Purnell Swett played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. 2025 welcomed they with a 58-35 loss courtesy of the Cape Fear Colts. The Rams have struggled against the Colts recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Purnell Swett lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Zoey Neff, who posted six points.

Leading Cape Fear to victory were Elisabeth Kirkland and Shanel Sutton. Kirkland dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 steals, while Sutton dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Kirkland a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Karamia Shields, who had seven points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Purnell Swett's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Cape Fear, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Jack Britt the next time they take the court. Cape Fear will head out to face Jack Britt at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Purnell Swett will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
