Preview: Anselmo-Merna Coyotes vs. Central Valley Cougars

Anselmo-Merna has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Central Valley Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Anselmo-Merna's strategy against Ansley/Litchfield on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Anselmo-Merna blew Ansley/Litchfield out of the water with a 62-19 final score. With Anselmo-Merna ahead 38-14 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

It was another big night for Makenna Miller, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and three steals. Miller is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Riley Marsh was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.

Meanwhile, Central Valley didn't have too much trouble with Twin Loup at home on Friday as they won 48-30. The win was just what Central Valley needed coming off of a 52-29 loss in their prior match.

Central Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Piper Shepard led the charge by scoring nine points along with five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayle Grossart, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.

Anselmo-Merna is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season. As for Central Valley, they pushed their record up to 13-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home.

Anselmo-Merna couldn't quite finish off Central Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 40-37. Can Anselmo-Merna avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
