Basketball Game Preview: Notus Pirates vs. Council Lumberjacks

Having just played yesterday, the Notus Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Council Lumberjacks at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Notus took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Gem State Adventist Academy with a sharp 72-50 victory. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Luis Vargas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 15 to rack up 22 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Derrick Huter, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 11 points.

Notus was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Council came up short against Notus last Tuesday and fell 66-55.

Notus' win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Council, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.

Notus was able to grind out a solid victory over Council when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 66-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Notus since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
