Preview: Quitman Panthers vs. Mendenhall Tigers
Quitman is 10-0 against Mendenhall since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Quitman Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Mendenhall Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Quitman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Quitman didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Northeast Jones, but they still walked away with a 50-44 win. Given Quitman's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Northeast Jones is ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
AUDRIANA HARRIS continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. KIARRA THOMPSON was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mendenhall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 67-35 loss at the hands of Northeast Jones. Mendenhall has not had much luck with Northeast Jones recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Quitman is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Mendenhall, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-8.
Everything went Quitman's way against Mendenhall in their previous meeting on January 9th as Quitman made off with a 68-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Quitman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
