Basketball Recap: Newberry Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Laurens Academy last Monday, Newberry Academy came back down to earth. Newberry Academy took a 36-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Richard Winn Academy Eagles. Newberry Academy has struggled against Richard Winn Academy recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Charlie Bonds was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards for Richard Winn Academy. Bonds is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Bennett Nicholson was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Newberry Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Richard Winn Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.

Newberry Academy will take on Laurens Academy in a holiday battle at at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Richard Winn Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lake Pointe Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
