Baseball Game Preview: Prout Crusaders vs. West Warwick Wizards

Prout has gone 7-2 against West Warwick recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Crusaders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wizards at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Prout is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 28th on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Middletown.

Prout saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Chofay, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Chofay is becoming a predictor of the Crusaders' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-3 (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, West Warwick faced North Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Wizards' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 3-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wizards.

Not much got past Anthony Burt, who gave up just four hits and racked up 19 Ks to keep North Providence off the board. Burt has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jack Proulx was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Dylan Provoyeur also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Warwick's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Prout, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Prout beat West Warwick 10-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Wizards have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
