Softball Recap: Williston-Elko Comes Up Short

Williston-Elko had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-8 to make it seven. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans. The matchup marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

For Ridge Spring-Monetta's part, Adalynn Holsomback spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. Holsomback has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trinity Burdett, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Alyssa Whitfield was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Williston-Elko will host Edisto at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, they will head out on the road to face off against Barnwell at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
